Mulligans Pharmacy - 50 Year Celebrations
Mulligans Pharmacy / Jonah Project fundraising:
2007 marked Mulligans Pharmacy's 50th year in business. Founded by Jim and Sheila Mulligan in 1957 Mulligans Pharmacy has grown from one small outlet on Georges Street in Waterford to twelve successful pharmacies throughout the South-East.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary Mulligans Pharmacy pledged to raise €50,000 for The Jonah Project, a local school dedicated to educating children affected by autism.
Each Mulligans Pharmacy provides a collection box where customers can donate as much or as little as they wish.
Events included a treasure hunt on Sunday 24th June, a sponsored sky dive on Sunday 19th August and over 35 members of staff and customers took part in the WLR fm Munster Express 10K Fun Run.
In celebration of Jim and Sheila Mulligan's 50th year in business in Waterford, Mulligan's Pharmacy held a Golf Day and Gala Ball in the Faithlegg House Hotel on Thursday 27th September.
While on the evening Jim, Sheila and Ronan Mulligan presented a cheque for €50,000 to Marian Phelan and Siobhan Heffernan from the Jonah Project the final tally amounted to €80,000. The day began with golf, 29 teams representing a cross section of local and national businesses and personalitied teeing off with a "shotgun start" at 12.30. The good weather helped to contribute to a very successful and competitive afternoon. The team representing Supervalu Thomastown had the best round of the day (93 points) and Ronan Mulligan presented the winning players with top of the range Fuji digital cameras. Unfortunately, there was no winner of the Mercedes C-Class hole in one, competition, sponsored by Tom Murphy Car Sales.
Following the golf, guests moved inside for a black tie champagne reception and enjoyed Faithlegg House Hotel's world-renowned cuisine. Local media personality Nicola Beresford compared the evening's proceedings, which included a superb meal and an entertaining DVD on 50 years of the Mulligans business in Waterford. All this was followed by a charity auction of, amongst other items, a luxury cruising holiday.
To round a fantastic day and night off, Waterford's own Brendan Bowyer entertained the guests into the early hours with a selection of his well loved favourities.
